One-story Craftsman style house is capped by a front gable roof whose deep eaves are supported by wood brackets. The house is clad in wood clapboard siding and its dominant type of fenestration is double hung wood sash. Originally open, the 2/3s length front porch was enclosed in 1987. Several windows were replaced at this time, as well. The front entrance is accessed via a set of raised steps that lead to an entry on the east side of the porch. The porch is flanked on its west side by a small projecting bay. A masonry chimney is placed near the south end of the east elevation.

This vernacular shotgun building (currently known as 42 Helena Ave.) is covered in a very low pitch roof covered by tin sheets. Narrow wood siding covers the exterior. A rough, heavy duty wood porte-cochere stands next to the building.

The tree fell in February o f 2015 and is no longer a City Landmark. A new tree will be propogated from the original. Both of this hybrid tree's progenitors are native to New South Wales and Queensland, Australia. It is an erect, oval crowned tree that grows to 50 ft or more in height. Large loose clusters of red flowers appear in July and August. The flowers are followed by woody, boat shaped pods. This tree is the last remnant of a large and influential nursery established by Dr. Franceschi in 1895, and stands as a living memorial to his pioneering horticultural skills.

All of the roofs are covered in terra cotta tiles. Some of the fenestration is comprised of multi-light and single light fixed paned windows (Tall hedges obscure view of other windows).
